Work in Progress Wednesday (on Thursday)

*I wrote this post this morning and published it.  Then I realized that it's Thursday.  Yeah . . . it's been a busy week*

It's been a busy week, so not much sewing has taken place.  This week's work in progress is the same it was a couple weeks ago, with a bit more progress: Tokyo Subway Map quilt top.

I have two more seams to sew together before I'm done with the top.  The blocks were put together as part of a bee I was involved in a couple years ago (yes, it's taken me that long to put the top together!).  Each person selected a block and strip pieced the colors together to make 25 of the same block.  We then sent them to the bee coordinator who sorted them and sent us 25 different blocks.

SInce each block was pieced by someone else, some of the seams are a bit difficult to fit together.  I had a lot of diifculty getting everything to fit, but since it's a bee quilt, I kinda gave up on being too worried about it.  In the problem areas, either the seams don't match, or I had to allow the fabric to bunch or fold over to make them match.  I think I prefer the fabric folding to the seams not matching. At least, from a distance, it looks like it's perfect!

Work in Progress Wednesday

I received these bee blocks awhile ago from my Wonky Quilt Bee friends.  I'd send them scraps of colored fabrics and the same brown print for the tree trunk.  The task was to make appliqued trees.  They came back so awesome!

Since this year is about finishing projects, I'm just now getting around to finishing this quilt.  So far, I've managed to complete the quilt top.  It's amazing.

I used Kona Teal for the shashing.  I know you're supposed to use a neutral color for the sashing, but I wanted each block to pop out and the only way to do that was to use a darker color.  Blue seemed like the perfect choice.

I'm hoping to be able to quilt it later this week.  We'll see about that progress!

It's a small quilt, 42 1/2" square.  The plan is to use it as a wall hanging in our living room.  I can't wait to add it to our wall!

Works in Progress

Liam has decided not to nap.  He seems to think he has a choice.  In reality, he's made life very difficult over the past week or so.  Translation, not much sewing time!

I have been able to work on a few WIP's.

These Kaleidoscope blocks are almost done.  I was able to finish sewing together all the pieces I had cut months ago.  I need to visit a LQS to grab some more blues and finish up the last 6-7 blocks.

I've also figured out which blocks are missing from the Tokyo Subway Map Swap blocks and cut squares for them.  Three blocks to sew together before I can assemble the top.  Almost there!

Instagram makes my photos look much better than they are.  Love it!  Of course, the colors are way off, but the photos look cool.

Work in Progress Wednesday

This week has been spent trying to quilt this behemoth.  Much wrangling has ensued.

I'd like to say I'm almost done, but, alas, no.  It will take many more nap times.

Crafting To Do

I have so many "to do" lists between home and work. Even the home list has crafting and home improvement things on it.  Unfortunately, the lists aren't tangible lists, but are rattling around in my head, taking up space.  Not that I don't have enough space.  However, I need to organize it somehow.  Here are my crafting to do items.  Some of these haven't even been started, so this also serves as an inspiration board of sorts.

  • Finish Broadstreet mittens
  • Finish more blocks for my Quilt-As-You-Go
  • Finish Oliver's knitted blanket
  • Finish back for HST quilt
  • Seam Solaris
  • Work on Oliver's Fiddlehead Pullover
  • Start Liam's Twisted Tree
  • Finish my Tea Leaves
  • Baste and Quilt Oliver's Quilt

I'll continue to add and subtract to this list as projects are completed, change, and come to mind!

Work in Progress Wednesday

I'm working on a couple of quilts at the same time.  I go from one project to the next.  My quilts have gotten quite piece-y, so there is a bit of cutting involved.  When I've had enough of one color-way and cutting streak, I move onto the next.

The first is strip pieced comprised of 2.5" black, white, and yellow squares.  I'm trying to do the entire thing in stages.  Cut it all.  Pin it all.  Sew it all.  Repeat.  Except, when I run out of pins.  In a previous post, I mentioned that I didn't quite cut some of the white fabric accurately, so I'm having a little difficultly lining up the seams and making things "square".  I'm just going with it, though.  We'll see how it turns out.  Hopefully not too noticeable.

The second project is using Innocent Crush by Anna Marie Horner.  I'm in love with this quilt and in love with HSTs right now.  I'm trying to combine the two loves.  So far, I have two piles of small 2.5" squares.  Soon, these will be some very small HSTs.  It's going to be a lot of marking, pinning, sewing, cutting, and more pinning.  I consider it a longterm project, so don't expect to see much progress in a timely manner.

These are both projects I can stop and start easily, which is good when you have to run after a one-year-old!

:: I added the post about Liam's fabric book to We Did It Wednesday.  Go check out what other people have done this past week!::

Perspectives Block Tutorial

Create a beautiful illusion with this perspectives block. When the blocks are put together circles appear, but there are no curved seams. The block utilizes two different size triangles to create this illusion. The tutorial is a FREE download! #quiltblock #perspectivesblock
